As part of the team leading the Maps & Search initiative, your role as an Engineering Manager is pivotal in transforming the real estate landscape. You’ll lead a high-performing team of software engineers, ensuring that each move aligns with the broader strategic goals of the company. Your hands-on approach will blend technical expertise with management skills, making you a key player in shaping the future of AI in real estate.
The Maps & Search team is responsible for the search service, which handles over a billion requests every month. This is a critical component of the company’s growth strategy, making the success of this team essential to the company’s long-term success. Your role will include:
- Technical Leadership: You’ll set the technical direction for the Maps & Search team, ensuring that every decision aligns with the broader strategic goals of the company. This includes hiring, coaching, and providing direct feedback to team members.
- Hands-On Experience: You’ll contribute directly to the code, including code reviews and architecture design, to make smart technical decisions that drive the team’s impact.
- Platform Scaling: You’ll drive the architecture and reliability of a real estate search system handling 1 billion monthly requests and hundreds of millions of listings. Your expertise will be key in ensuring the system’s scalability and reliability.
- User Experience: You’ll lead the core home discovery experience across web and mobile, improving user engagement, lead conversion, and agent workflows.
- AI Integration: You’ll partner with product and design teams to bring LLMs and intelligent ranking into search and user workflows, enhancing the discovery process.
- Product Roadmap: You’ll translate user needs and business goals into a clear technical plan, and ensure the entire delivery process, from planning to quality and incident response, is smooth and effective.

Skills and Experience:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with meaningful senior or staff-level time, plus 2+ years managing engineering teams.
- Search experience: you’ve worked on search, relevance, ranking, or retrieval systems. You understand how search works and how to make it better.
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React, with full-stack fluency to reason about the whole request path from UI to data.
- Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred).
- Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems (Kafka), and databases (PostgreSQL, OpenSearch).
- Proven track record operating high-traffic, low-latency production systems at scale — SLOs, incident response, and capacity planning are second nature.
- Experience leading high-impact initiatives from concept through production in a SaaS environment.
