After reading more job descriptions than I can count, I wrote one of my own.
THE ROLE
A senior engineer with 5 years of experience, looking for a team where I'll own real problems end to end, not just move tickets across a board.
REQUIREMENTS (FOR YOU, THE COMPANY)
• You hire for pattern recognition, not syntax recall. Anyone can look up a method signature. You want someone who sees that today's bug is a race condition they've met before, or that the "new" feature is last quarter's problem in a different shape.
• You expect ownership. When I build something, I own all of it: the design, the tests, the deploy, and the follow-up when it breaks at 2 a.m. You give engineers that responsibility, not just a list of tasks.
• Your stack runs on Node.js with NestJS, React, and TypeScript.
• Your code lives on GitHub or GitLab, and pull requests get real reviews, not rubber stamps.
NICE TO HAVE
• Next.js
• AWS
• CI/CD that runs on every pull request
WHAT YOU GET
• 5 years building production systems with Node.js and React
• Cut p95 latency on marketplace listing endpoints \~25% by profiling slow-query logs to isolate three
high-cost joins, adding composite indexes, and retuning MySQL configuration, verified against two
weeks of production traffic.
• Rebuilt Driven Properties' property search, Organic sessions to search pages rose 7% in the three weeks following launch.
• An engineer who leaves every codebase in better shape than he found it
