The engineering leadership role at Canonical is a dynamic position focused on enhancing Ubuntu’s performance and integration with the latest silicon technology, particularly for IoT and server-class hardware. This role is part of a team that collaborates with major silicon companies to integrate advanced features and performance enhancements for emerging hardware.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing relationships with key technology partners to ensure timely project milestones are met.
- Leading, coaching, and mentoring engineers to develop strong technical skills and drive growth within the team.
- Overseeing commercial engagements and driving the implementation of solutions that meet customer needs.
- Ensuring strict quality and reliability standards are maintained across all projects.
- Collaborating with other teams within Canonical to align product architecture and roadmaps.
- Engaging with customers to understand their technical needs and business challenges, and delivering effective solutions.
- Leading a distributed team of software engineers.
- Traveling up to twice a year for up to two weeks to engage with partners and customers.
Requirements for this role include:
- Experience with Linux distributions, Debian packaging, and high-performance server-class hardware.
- Demonstrated ability to work directly with customers, resolving technical issues, and communicating effectively to meet their needs.
- Experience managing or leading a team of software engineers.
- Understanding of agile software development methodologies.
- Effective communication skills in both written and oral English.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technology field (preferably in a related field).
