Honest post, would love some real advice. Please be patient with this. I've spent the last several years(almost a decade) in advertising and communications in Nepal. Worked across a few agencies, ran a small one of my own with a team of ten. Clients ranged from hospitals and schools to a government bank, NGOs, and political parties. We took on election campaigns, won some, lost some. The work was all over the place in the best way: ads, posters, TikTok contests, and political content. I also made my own videos on the side, political commentary that pulled thousands of views, never had formal training. Learned everything on the job. However, the market in Nepal is small. It's not as demanding or competitive as what you'd find internationally; I'm not bitter about it. I am really grateful to everyone who taught a civil engineer to craft a meaningful piece of communication. It's just the reality of it that I feel like I have hit the ceiling. So I want to try international waters. I'm genuinely okay starting from the bottom if that's what it takes. The problem is, I don't know how to present myself. My CV is six pages (with a lot of political communication experience), even after cutting a lot out. My website is decent(not updated, for I don't know what to include). My LinkedIn is okish. Ten years of varied, chaotic, real experience, and I have no idea how to make it legible to someone hiring in London, Singapore or New York. But I know in my heart that if I can get past the gate, I will shine with my unique perspective on things. All these years, I was busy hustling, and now it feels like what did I even do all these years? I never got to crafting a perfect portfolio or reaching out to people who've made it in the international arenas. What I'm actually looking for now is roles in strategy, brand communication, political communication, ideation, and campaign thinking. The creative and strategic side, not just execution. I am based in Nepal and would love to assist remotely for now. Has anyone made a jump like this from a smaller market into something international? How did you package yourself? What mattered and what was just noise? Would really appreciate any direction. Thanks.
