Job Description
Your Impact
At Bees & Bears, data is the backbone of everything we do. As our first dedicated Data Engineer, you'll build the foundation that allows us to scale - cleanly, reliably, and without adding operational chaos.
Right now, our data lives in silos across tools, teams, and processes. Manual work fills the gaps, and that's a bottleneck we need to solve. You'll design and own the infrastructure that changes that: a single source of truth that powers decisions across Risk, Finance, Product, and Operations.
You'll work closely with our Engineering, Product, Risk, and Finance teams, as well as directly with our leadership, to understand what data they need and make sure they can actually use it.
Tasks
Your Mission
- Build and maintain robust data pipelines across all core systems
- Design and implement our company data warehouse from the ground up
- Integrate data from internal systems, APIs, and third-party tools
- Ensure data reliability, consistency, and accessibility across the company
- Enable teams with clean, structured data for faster and better decision-making
- Define data ownership, naming conventions, and quality standards that scale
Requirements
Your Talent
Must-have:
- Strong SQL and Python skills - you're genuinely comfortable writing complex queries and automating data workflows
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines end to end
- Experience with data warehouse setup and data modeling
- Proven ability to work independently and build systems from scratch
Strong preference:
- Experience with modern data stack tools such as dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, or BigQuery
- Background in a startup or high-growth environment
- Experience collaborating with Product, Risk, or Finance teams
Nice to have:
- Experience with BI tools and dashboarding
- Basic understanding of financial data or fintech processes
- Experience with data quality, testing, and monitoring frameworks
- Familiarity with data privacy and security requirements
Benefits
Growth & Culture
We move fast, we're building a lot from scratch, and we're learning something new every day. You'll be part of a team that doesn't just work, it truly builds something, with a strong sense of ownership and genuine team spirit.
Impact
Your job has a direct impact on the energy transition. Period.
And because this is important to us, we offer extra days off for climate activism.
Flexibility
We work in a hybrid, trust-based environment.
Working from home is the norm for us, two days a week are standard and flexible. We structure the rest in whatever way best supports collaboration and focus within the team.
And if it works for you and your team, you can also work from other locations, workations are possible here.
Perks
You'll receive a flexible bonus that you can use however you like, sports, culture, travel, whatever works for you.
Food & Energy
Long days happen. When the office is running, so is the food: just order something to the office via Wolt.
Team & Vibe
We take our mission seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously.
Offsites, team nights, and our "Bees & Beers" are just as much a part of the job as the work itself.
About us
At Bees & Bears, we’re a Climate FinTech on a mission to unlock capital for the energy transition. We believe finance is the key to accelerating the shift toward a sustainable future. The challenge ahead is massive: by 2050, the world needs to invest €150 trillion (!) to reach climate neutrality. 65% of this investment will need to be financed through loans.
Our mission is to channel capital into the sustainable economy — to accelerate the transition and make the world greener.
What we do:
We work closely with installers of climate hardware such as solar systems, energy storage, and heat pumps — enabling their customers to finance installations easily through monthly installments. Our platform provides the technical and financial foundation to make this happen. In doing so, we’re actively accelerating the energy transition — for households, for our partners, and for the planet.
We’ve recently secured €500 million in funding commitments to green 25,000 households over the next two years. Prior to that, we raised two funding rounds backed by several renowned VCs — and we’ve been growing rapidly ever since.Sound like the perfect job for you?
We look forward to your application and to getting to know you!
At Bees & Bears, we place a high value on equal opportunity and are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. We strive to create a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for all our employees, regardless of ethnic origin, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability and abilities of any kind, physical appearance, social background, marital status, age, or religion (or lack thereof).
Even if you don’t meet the requirements 100%, we still encourage you to apply.
You don’t want an ordinary job. You want to build something that truly matters. Be part of shaping it from day one, move fast and feel your impact. In a startup that doesn’t ask if something is possible – but how fast. Then you’ve come to the right place!

Expert Career Tips for Data Engineer (m/f/d) - Berlin Roles
To succeed in a competitive market as a Data Engineer (m/f/d) - Berlin, you need more than just technical skills. Here are some expert strategies to elevate your profile:
- Build a Strong Portfolio: For technical roles, a clean GitHub or a personal project site is essential. For non-technical roles, a case study portfolio demonstrating problem-solving and impact is equally valuable. Show, don't just tell, what you have achieved in your previous positions.
- Master the Narrative: When interviewing, use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers. Quantify your results wherever possible—mentioning "increased efficiency by 20%" is much more impactful than saying "improved efficiency."
- Continuous Learning: The industry moves fast. Whether it's staying updated with the latest AI tools or mastering a new management methodology, continuous professional development is key. Consider obtaining industry-recognized certifications that align with Data Engineer (m/f/d) - Berlin requirements.
- Networking: Connect with other professionals in similar roles. Join online communities, attend webinars, and engage in meaningful discussions on professional social networks. Often, the best opportunities come through referrals and community engagement.
- Soft Skills Matter: Communication, empathy, and leadership are often the deciding factors between two equally qualified technical candidates. Cultivate these skills as they are universally valued across all industries and seniority levels.
Additionally, research the specific company's culture and values. Tailoring your application to show how you align with their mission can significantly increase your chances of moving forward in the process.

Comprehensive Application Strategy & Hiring Process
Applying for a new role is a marathon, not a sprint. Follow this strategic approach to maximize your success rate:
1. Initial Research & Tailoring
Don't send the same resume to every employer. Spend at least 30 minutes researching the company. Look for recent news, their product roadmap, and their team structure. Modify your summary and core competencies to reflect the specific keywords found in the job description.
2. The Perfect Cover Letter
If the application allows for a cover letter, use it to tell a story that your resume cannot. Explain why you are passionate about this specific company and how your unique background makes you the perfect fit for the challenges they are currently facing.
3. Navigating the Multi-Stage Interview
Most modern hiring processes involve 3-5 stages. This typically includes a recruiter screen, a technical or skill-based assessment, a peer interview, and a final leadership round. Prepare for each stage differently: focus on enthusiasm and fit for the recruiter, technical depth for the assessment, and strategic vision for the leadership round.
4. Post-Interview Follow-Up
Always send a personalized thank-you note within 24 hours of each interview. Reference a specific topic discussed during the call to demonstrate your active listening and genuine interest in the role.
By following these steps, you demonstrate a high level of professionalism and attention to detail that sets you apart from the average applicant.
Typical Interview Process
- Resume screening
- HR call
- Skill interview
- Final manager interview

Tip: Research the company's products and culture.
Global Market Intelligence & Relocation Insights
At JobSetuu, we specialize in helping talent navigate the global job market. Here is what you need to know about the current landscape in Berlin and beyond:
The demand for skilled professionals is increasingly borderless. For roles based in Berlin, understanding the local cost of living, visa requirements (if applicable), and cultural nuances is vital. If this is a remote role, consider the time zone alignment and the asynchronous communication culture of the hiring organization.
Relocation Support: Many forward-thinking companies offer relocation packages that include moving stipends, temporary housing, and legal assistance with work permits. When evaluating an offer, look beyond the base salary—consider the total compensation package, including equity, bonuses, and healthcare benefits.
Work-Life Balance Trends: Hybrid and remote work have become standard in many regions. Research the local labor laws and common practices regarding work hours and vacation time to ensure the role aligns with your lifestyle goals.
Leveraging JobSetuu's tools can help you compare salaries across different cities and understand the "purchasing power" of your potential offer, ensuring you make an informed decision for your long-term career path.
Skills & Competency Roadmap for Professional Development
To remain competitive in Professional Development, we recommend focusing on the following core competencies over the next 12-18 months:
- Technical Mastery: Deepen your expertise in the core tools and languages relevant to your field. For developers, this might be cloud architecture; for marketers, it might be data-driven attribution modeling.
- AI Augmentation: Learn how to leverage generative AI and automation tools to increase your productivity. Understanding how to integrate these technologies into your workflow is becoming a non-negotiable skill.
- Leadership & Strategy: Even in individual contributor roles, the ability to think strategically and lead projects from inception to completion is highly valued. Focus on stakeholder management and high-level project planning.
- Data Literacy: The ability to interpret data and use it to drive decisions is essential across all business functions. Familiarize yourself with data visualization and basic analytical concepts.
By investing in these areas, you not only prepare yourself for the role you are applying for today but also build a resilient foundation for the opportunities of tomorrow.
