Job Description
About Us:
YipitData is the leading market research and analytics firm for the disruptive economy. Our proprietary technology analyzes billions of alternative data points to uncover actionable insights across sectors like Consumer Goods, AI & Software, Cloud, Payments, and more. The world's top investment funds and Fortune 500 companies depend on our data to drive high-stakes decisions.
We operate globally with offices in the US, APAC, and India. Our award-winning, people-centric culture—recognized by Inc. as a Best Workplace for three consecutive years—emphasizes transparency, ownership, and continuous mastery.
What It's Like to Work Here
- Ownership is real, not aspirational. An analyst here can own a data product end-to-end, from methodology to client delivery, and present directly to the investors who depend on it. You won't spend months waiting for "meaningful work."
- Growth is driven by impact, not tenure. Scope and responsibility expand as fast as you can demonstrate you're ready. We promote based on what you've done, not how long you've been here.
- AI is a core working tool, not a side project. We're actively rebuilding how analytical work gets done, using AI agents, automation, and new tooling to fundamentally change what's possible. If you're excited about that, you'll thrive here.
About the Role:
You'll join our Consumer Goods sector team, the largest sector team at YipitData, covering major retailers and brands like Walmart, Target, Nike, Lululemon, and industry products tracking US consumer behavior and pricing. This team delivers data products and research that help the world's top investors understand consumer spending trends, market share shifts, and competitive dynamics across retail and branded goods.
This role is different from a typical Data Analyst seat. While you'll ramp onto existing products to build familiarity with our data, methodologies, and processes, the core expectation is not maintaining the current portfolio — it's pushing the boundaries of what we can offer. Working closely with the Sector Head and Research Lead , you'll focus on:
- Identifying and building new product types and research opportunities — finding novel ways to leverage our data to answer the questions clients care about most, whether that means developing entirely new methodologies, exploring new third-party datasets, or creating new analytical frameworks
- Expanding into new use cases and client segments — for example, extending our consumer goods data to serve Macro investors or other end markets that we haven't traditionally addressed
- Driving strategic impact — partnering with Research to shape the sector's roadmap with an evidence-based point of view, surfacing opportunities proactively, and ensuring our most innovative work translates into client value
- Raising the bar through example — while formal mentoring sits with the data lead, you'll be one of the most senior ICs on the team and will naturally elevate the work of mid-level and high-potential junior analysts through the standard you set, the rigor of your technical review, and your willingness to collaborate
This is a role for someone who gets energy from building new things in ambiguous spaces — not someone looking to settle into a well-defined product portfolio. You'll be client-adjacent (informing what goes to investors rather than presenting directly, though there will be opportunities to be client-facing where it adds value) and deeply embedded in the strategic direction of one of our highest-impact sectors.
As a Data Analyst, you will:
- Own high-impact data products end-to-end — driving product success by delivering best-in-class outputs with a focus on accuracy, client value, and efficiency. You'll ramp quickly into full ownership of your products and workflows, operating with minimal oversight.
- Work with massive amounts of data to answer our clients' key questions about the companies and datasets we analyze. You'll develop deep expertise in our proprietary methods and techniques, building strong mental models that allow you to ensure data accuracy, identify methodology gaps, and derive key insights.
- Tackle complex data problems independently, using strong analytical judgment to refine methodologies, test new datasets, and solve challenges that require innovative thinking — even when information is incomplete or ambiguous.
- Use AI and tooling to drive meaningful leverage — significantly increasing speed, reducing manual work, and beginning to automate portions of workflows. You'll standardize best practices and build repeatable processes, always maintaining a high bar for correctness and quality while validating AI-generated outputs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Research, Engineering, and other teams — coordinating across functions to unblock work, align on best practices, and develop technical solutions that streamline workflows, optimize data processes, and push the boundaries of automation.
- Drive Product and Strategic Impact - Identify opportunities to improve products, develop new methodologies, explore new datasets, and enhance client value. Connect your technical work to business outcomes and contribute to the strategic direction of your sector.
You Are Likely To Succeed If:
- You have 6+ years of experience in data analytics, with a background in fields like financial services, management consulting, data science, or high-growth technology — or another environment where you worked with complex data to drive high-stakes decisions
- You have expert fluency in SQL and experience using Python or PySpark, including building reliable, reusable analysis workflows
- You have a proven track record of quickly learning complex data methodologies and building strong mental models of how and why data works
- You have led complex, ambiguous projects with multiple stakeholders — scoping the approach, driving alignment, and delivering outcomes — with a strong bias toward action and ownership
- You can clearly communicate complex concepts — including methodology, risks, and tradeoffs — and influence cross-functional partners to move decisions forward
- You actively use AI tools and are excited about using AI to drive leverage — not just productivity, but fundamentally better and faster ways of working
What We Offer:
Our compensation package includes comprehensive benefits, perks, and a competitive salary:
- We care about your personal life, and we mean it. We offer flexible work hours, flexible vacation, a generous 401K match, parental leave, team events, wellness budget, learning reimbursement, and more!
- Your growth at YipitData is determined by the impact that you are making, not by tenure, unnecessary facetime, or office politics. Everyone at YipitData is empowered to learn, self-improve, and master their skills in an environment focused on ownership, respect, and trust. See more on our high-impact, high-opportunity work environment above!
- The annual base compensation for this position is anticipated to be $165K-$205K. The final offer may be determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as internal team benchmarks.
- The total compensation package includes a mix of base, bonus, equity, and benefits

Expert Career Tips for Data Analyst Roles
To succeed in a competitive market as a Data Analyst, you need more than just technical skills. Here are some expert strategies to elevate your profile:
- Build a Strong Portfolio: For technical roles, a clean GitHub or a personal project site is essential. For non-technical roles, a case study portfolio demonstrating problem-solving and impact is equally valuable. Show, don't just tell, what you have achieved in your previous positions.
- Master the Narrative: When interviewing, use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers. Quantify your results wherever possible—mentioning "increased efficiency by 20%" is much more impactful than saying "improved efficiency."
- Continuous Learning: The industry moves fast. Whether it's staying updated with the latest AI tools or mastering a new management methodology, continuous professional development is key. Consider obtaining industry-recognized certifications that align with Data Analyst requirements.
- Networking: Connect with other professionals in similar roles. Join online communities, attend webinars, and engage in meaningful discussions on professional social networks. Often, the best opportunities come through referrals and community engagement.
- Soft Skills Matter: Communication, empathy, and leadership are often the deciding factors between two equally qualified technical candidates. Cultivate these skills as they are universally valued across all industries and seniority levels.
Additionally, research the specific company's culture and values. Tailoring your application to show how you align with their mission can significantly increase your chances of moving forward in the process.

Comprehensive Application Strategy & Hiring Process
Applying for a new role is a marathon, not a sprint. Follow this strategic approach to maximize your success rate:
1. Initial Research & Tailoring
Don't send the same resume to every employer. Spend at least 30 minutes researching the company. Look for recent news, their product roadmap, and their team structure. Modify your summary and core competencies to reflect the specific keywords found in the job description.
2. The Perfect Cover Letter
If the application allows for a cover letter, use it to tell a story that your resume cannot. Explain why you are passionate about this specific company and how your unique background makes you the perfect fit for the challenges they are currently facing.
3. Navigating the Multi-Stage Interview
Most modern hiring processes involve 3-5 stages. This typically includes a recruiter screen, a technical or skill-based assessment, a peer interview, and a final leadership round. Prepare for each stage differently: focus on enthusiasm and fit for the recruiter, technical depth for the assessment, and strategic vision for the leadership round.
4. Post-Interview Follow-Up
Always send a personalized thank-you note within 24 hours of each interview. Reference a specific topic discussed during the call to demonstrate your active listening and genuine interest in the role.
By following these steps, you demonstrate a high level of professionalism and attention to detail that sets you apart from the average applicant.
Typical Interview Process

- HR call
- Skill interview
- Final manager interview

Global Market Intelligence & Relocation Insights
At JobSetuu, we specialize in helping talent navigate the global job market. Here is what you need to know about the current landscape in Global and beyond:
The demand for skilled professionals is increasingly borderless. For roles based in Global, understanding the local cost of living, visa requirements (if applicable), and cultural nuances is vital. If this is a remote role, consider the time zone alignment and the asynchronous communication culture of the hiring organization.
Relocation Support: Many forward-thinking companies offer relocation packages that include moving stipends, temporary housing, and legal assistance with work permits. When evaluating an offer, look beyond the base salary—consider the total compensation package, including equity, bonuses, and healthcare benefits.
Work-Life Balance Trends: Hybrid and remote work have become standard in many regions. Research the local labor laws and common practices regarding work hours and vacation time to ensure the role aligns with your lifestyle goals.
Leveraging JobSetuu's tools can help you compare salaries across different cities and understand the "purchasing power" of your potential offer, ensuring you make an informed decision for your long-term career path.
Skills & Competency Roadmap for Professional Development
To remain competitive in Professional Development, we recommend focusing on the following core competencies over the next 12-18 months:
- Technical Mastery: Deepen your expertise in the core tools and languages relevant to your field. For developers, this might be cloud architecture; for marketers, it might be data-driven attribution modeling.
- AI Augmentation: Learn how to leverage generative AI and automation tools to increase your productivity. Understanding how to integrate these technologies into your workflow is becoming a non-negotiable skill.
- Leadership & Strategy: Even in individual contributor roles, the ability to think strategically and lead projects from inception to completion is highly valued. Focus on stakeholder management and high-level project planning.
- Data Literacy: The ability to interpret data and use it to drive decisions is essential across all business functions. Familiarize yourself with data visualization and basic analytical concepts.
By investing in these areas, you not only prepare yourself for the role you are applying for today but also build a resilient foundation for the opportunities of tomorrow.
