Job Description

We are not filling a seat. We are looking for the person who will help define what Marvelous becomes.

This is a rare opportunity to join a first-generation industrial deep tech fund at the moment it matters most — when the portfolio is being built, the firm's reputation is being earned, and the decisions made in the next two years will shape everything that follows. The person we hire will be a genuine partner in that work: sourcing independently, leading diligence, sitting across the table from exceptional founders, and helping deploy with conviction and rigour.

About Marvelous

Marvelous is a pre-seed and seed fund backing Europe's most ambitious industrial deep tech founders. Our ambition extends further - we are building a broader investment platform encompassing a Fund of Funds, growth vehicles and beyond. We currently invest across three interconnected verticals — Food, Agriculture & Land Use; Heavy Industry; and the Built Environment, specifically in Advanced Materials & Molecules, Waste Valorisation, and Robotics — with a focused thesis that the physical economy is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation, and the best deep tech companies are being built right now. Our mission is a future-fit economy thriving within planetary boundaries to the benefit of all.

What sets us apart is The Catalyst – our industry collaboration engine. We have a growing network of relevant industrial companies who act as strategic partners — providing technical diligence, manufacturing access, real-world pilots, and offtake relationships to our portfolio from day one. For a deep tech founder, this is not just capital. It is credibility, speed, and a path to commercial scale that most funds cannot offer.

We are a small, high-performance, low-ego team. Every member of the Marvelous team carries real responsibility and earns real ownership in the fund's outcomes. There is no hierarchy to hide behind and no large analyst pool to delegate to.

Core Values at Marvelous

  • Radical honesty — you say what you think, including when it's uncomfortable
  • Depth over breadth — you'd rather know one thing exceptionally well than everything superficially
  • Impact over ego — you care about the outcome, not the credit
  • Mission matters — you're motivated by backing companies that change how the physical world works
  • No passengers — you bring initiative, not just execution

Tasks

Title — Senior Associate or Principal — will reflect the experience and seniority of the person we hire. The scope won't change either way: this is a full-stack investing role with real ownership across every stage of the investment lifecycle.

You'll source independently and build proprietary deal flow that others won't see. You'll lead diligence end-to-end, own deal structuring and negotiation alongside the GPs, and write IC memos that stand up to scrutiny. You'll develop genuine expertise within our verticals and, over time, build a personal portfolio of investments and take board positions — with an experienced GP team behind you.

Responsibilities

Sourcing & Dealflow

  • Build a proprietary pipeline of pre-seed and seed-stage industrial deep tech companies across Europe, UK, and beyond
  • Own founder relationships, research spinout networks, accelerator pipelines, and co-investor connections — generating warm introductions before anyone else has seen the company
  • Develop original investment theses and hypotheses within our verticals; lead sector and market mapping to identify emerging whitespace
  • Represent Marvelous at key ecosystem events, university programmes, and industry forums — and become a recognised, go-to voice in the industrial deep tech community

Due Diligence & Investment Committee

  • Lead structured, rigorous diligence across technology readiness, market dynamics, competitive positioning, and founding team quality
  • Drive and own deal structuring, term sheet negotiation, and transaction documentation alongside the GP in charge
  • Co-lead legal DD and economic negotiations; coordinate with external and internal legal counsel
  • Write crisp, well-argued IC memos and present investment recommendations with conviction
  • Coordinate expert reviews with our Catalyst industrial partners and external technical advisors
  • Contribute substantively to investment decisions — your view counts

Thought Leadership & Sector Expertise

  • Develop deep expertise in regulation, technology landscape, competitive dynamics, economics, and key actors across advanced materials & molecules, waste valorisation, and robotics — within the Food, Agriculture & Land Use, Heavy Industry, and Built Environment sectors
  • Produce and share analysis that sharpens the fund's investment thesis and builds Marvelous' reputation externally
  • Track emerging technologies, policy developments, and market shifts that affect our portfolio and pipeline

Portfolio Support

  • Build trusted relationships with portfolio founders and provide substantive strategic and commercial support
  • Lead onboarding and co-lead the ongoing monitoring process with the partner in charge
  • Take board observer or director positions and help portfolio companies grow through the challenges of early company building
  • Connect portfolio companies with the Catalyst network and the broader Marvelous ecosystem at the right moments
  • Support follow-on financing processes and contribute to exit strategy thinking

LP Relations & Fund Development

  • Contribute to quarterly LP reporting, ESG/impact measurement, and SFDR Article 9 compliance
  • Support GP-led LP relationship management and, in time, participate in future fundraising conversations
  • Help build and communicate Marvelous' investment thesis and public presence

Requirements

We are looking for someone exceptional — not a good generalist investor, but someone who is genuinely outstanding and who will raise the bar for the whole team.

  • 4–7 years of investing experience in venture capital, growth equity, or a closely related role with a track record of sourcing, diligence, and executing investments
  • Real intellectual engagement with physical-world technology: materials, energy systems, manufacturing processes, biology, engineering. You don't need a PhD, but you need to be the person in the room who asks the right technical question — and knows when the answer isn't good enough
  • Deep tech or hard tech investing experience is strongly preferred; we are also open to exceptional candidates with significant operational or strategic experience inside industrial or manufacturing businesses who have since moved into investing
  • A strong network in the European deep tech or industrial startup ecosystem — you open doors that others can't, and founders take your call
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication — your memos are a pleasure to read, your founder pitches are compelling, and you can hold a room in both English and, ideally, German
  • Proactive and independent by nature: you identify opportunities before being asked, build your own conviction from first principles, and thrive without close management
  • Courageous enough to make tough calls and defend a view under pressure; genuinely open to being wrong and willing to change your mind when the evidence demands it
  • A demonstrated history of high performance — you have been promoted, recognised, and trusted with increasing responsibility
  • Based in Berlin or London, or genuinely ready to relocate; must have the right to work in the EU or UK without requiring visa sponsorship

Benefits

  • A foundational role in an emerging fund with a marvelous GP team ;)
  • A clear path to Partner and the potential for rapid promotion for the right person
  • The opportunity to build a personal portfolio of investments and take board positions from early in your tenure
  • Exposure to some of the most ambitious industrial founders in Europe
  • Flexibility between Berlin and London, with travel to founders, Catalyst partners, and events across Europe
  • Access to professional development, industry conferences, and one of the most compelling LP and ecosystem networks in European deep tech
  • Carried interest participation. We believe the people doing the work should share in what we build
  • The chance to help build an investment platform, not just deploy a single fund — Marvelous' ambition spans direct investing, Fund-of-Funds, growth vehicles, and beyond, and the right person will grow with that

In place of a cover letter, please include a short note answering these questions:

  1. What draws you to industrial deep tech investing, and what you would bring to Marvelous that no one else would?
  2. Name a company, sub-sector, or emerging technology within our verticals (Food/Ag/Land Use, Heavy Industry, or Built Environment) that you believe is underinvested or underappreciated — why is it underinvested, and what would need to change for capital to follow?
  3. Our Catalyst model integrates industrial partners into diligence and commercialisation. What do you see as the biggest challenge in making that model work, and how would you approach it?

This is not a test with a right answer. We want to see how you think. We review applications on a rolling basis and move quickly for the right candidate.
