Localize is seeking an energetic, growth-minded Engineering Manager to join our US-based remote team. In this Engineering Manager role, you will oversee a team of software engineers across our remote organization. You’ll be accountable for execution across the full software development lifecycle, setting clear expectations, driving delivery, and ensuring high-quality outcomes. You’ll develop engineers through direct feedback, technical leadership, and performance management, while maintaining a strong focus on output, reliability, and scalability.

This role plays a critical part in advancing our engineering standards, technical direction, and delivery discipline. You will partner closely with leadership to translate business priorities into execution, remove obstacles, and make hard decisions when needed to keep the team moving forward. This role reports directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a remote engineering team with a clear focus on performance, accountability, and delivery
  • Set expectations for execution quality, timelines, and technical standards; hold teams accountable to outcomes
  • Oversee the quality of engineering deliverables, including code, testing, debugging, and deployment
  • Identify performance gaps, technical debt, and delivery risks early and take decisive action to resolve them
  • Drive performance through clear expectations, direct feedback, and technical leadership
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope in a distributed environment
  • Implement pragmatic execution and project management approaches to mitigate risk and maintain momentum
  • Continuously improve engineering efficiency by eliminating friction, unnecessary process, and bottlenecks
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, maintainable software solutions; review code and contribute hands-on where necessary to unblock progress
  • Operate with high alignment to leadership priorities, balancing speed, quality, and long-term system health

Technologies

  • Frontend: TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Redux, Less
  • Backend: JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Express, Mongoose
  • Datastores: MongoDB (Mongoose.js ODM), Redis, S3
  • Infrastructure: AWS (Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, ElastiCache, CloudFlare, CloudFront, Route 53, etc.)
  • DevOps / Misc: Git/GitHub, Jira, CircleCI, Mocha
  • Applied LLM engineering:
    • Hands-on experience integrating LLMs into production systems (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or similar)
    • Strong understanding of prompt engineering, context engineering, and token management
    • Experience designing or implementing RAG pipelines, embeddings, and vector search
    • Familiarity with emerging LLM infrastructure patterns and protocols (e.g., MCP, tool/function calling, agents)

Qualifications

  • Technical engineering leader with 3+ years of people management experience and 5+ years in software engineering
  • Proven ability to lead remote engineering teams with strong execution discipline
  • Track record of driving results, holding teams accountable, and navigating complex technical challenges
  • Able to make and communicate difficult decisions that support delivery execution, product quality, and company objectives.
  • Strong ability to identify roadblocks quickly and take ownership of resolving them
  • Experience setting clear goals, measuring progress, and driving continuous performance improvement
  • Hands-on leader who can dive into architecture, code, and technical decision-making when required
  • Experience hiring, evaluating, and building high-performing engineering teams
  • Confident operating without ego and in close alignment with executive leadership
  • Experience building and scaling SaaS applications or platforms
